Alpha Xi Delta is proud to be one of the highest grossing philanthropic chapters at K-State!
Alpha Xi Delta is continuously proud to bring Autism Speaks to Kansas State University’s campus. The Alpha Kappa chapter raised approximately $46,000 for Autism Speaks through various philanthropy events this past year, the largest amount our chapter has ever raised! As the world’s largest autism advocacy organization, Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, funding research into the cause, and advocating for the needs of individuals affected by autism and their families.
Alpha Xi Delta’s first philanthropy event of the year is Nacho FrenXi, an all you can eat nacho bar with additional entertainment. This event is one of the first philanthropy events of the semester on campus, and we host it block party style outside of our chapter house.
In September our sisters then have the opportunity to volunteer at the Autism Speaks Walk in Kansas City. The walk is a fun way for us to see and interact with the families we are affecting, and we look forward to it every year as it deepens our sisters' personal connections with Autism Speaks!
We then wrap up the fall semester with the AmaXing Challenge, our Step It Up 5K. This past year we put together our first “Color Run” for the annual 5K. We are lucky to have many so many people in our K-State family and Manhattan community to come and support our philanthropy events year after year.
Second semester, Alpha Xi Delta supports Autism Awareness Month throughout April with the Light It Up Blue campaign. Chapters across campus help raise awareness for autism by lighting their chapter homes up blue with light bulbs, yard signs and painted letters in honor of Autism Awareness Month. On April 2, we light up Anderson Hall on campus with blue lights to show support for National Autism Awareness Day.
We are also excited to announce that we will be introducing our new philanthropy event this spring, “Alpha Xi’s and Late Night Wings.” We will be serving wings and desserts at the house to celebrate the end of Autism Awareness Month. We will also be including our AmaXing Challenge event on this day with fun karaoke for our participants!
The Alpha Kappa chapter continues to not only be a leading philanthropic chapter on campus but also with our volunteer work in Manhattan. There are so many people affected by autism right in our community, and it has been Alpha Xi Delta’s mission this past year to show our support to these families. In April 2016 we started an after-school program at Amanda Arnold Elementary School here in Manhattan. At our after-school program our sisters are able to play games, have snacks and do art and crafts with some awesome children in the elementary schools special education program. This program exceeded our expectations and was an absolutely amazing experience for our sisters. We are so excited to grow the program this year and continue our work supporting the families affected by autism here in our community.
Our philanthropic work on K-State’s campus and in our community is something our sisters hold near and dear to our hearts. We especially appreciate the constant support of our fellow Greek chapters, and we are always excited to support them at their philanthropy events too. We can’t wait to see what the year has in store as we continue to grow our passion and work for Autism Speaks and our Manhattan community.
